Preparations for the funeral of Nigeria's former president Muhammadu Buhari, which is set to take place on Tuesday, are underway in his hometown. Dura and the rest of Nigeria are in mourning following Buhari's death on Sunday at the age of 82 after a "prolonged illness". He had twice led Nigeria: once in the 1980s as a military leader, and again in 2015 as a democratically elected president. He leaves behind a mixed legacy.

Also, he has led Cameroon for over four decades, but President Paul Biya, now aged 92, is showing no signs of stopping. Biya has announced that he will be standing in October's upcoming election, seeking his eighth term in office. The president took to social media to declare his candidacy, promising that the best is yet to come. However, human rights groups have condemned the move, arguing that it shows that the necessary political transition in the country is now stalled.

Sierra Leone’s Tiwai Island has earned a coveted spot on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
