Throughout your working life, there's certainly some things, some 'behind-the-scenes secrets', you discover that you were completely unaware of. And it could even alter how you view things.

This is exactly what happened to a former hotel room cleaner, who now cannot stay in a hotel room without considering certain "disgusting" things she discovered during her stint as a housekeeper.

Danna Murillo, a 23-year-old woman from Costa Rica, has been employed at three different hotels - ranging from major international chains to local establishments.

She has now revealed the experience has entirely transformed how she perceives hotel rooms, after witnessing how they are cleaned.

In a clip posted on TikTok, Danna assured viewers that it's "not like this everywhere", but it has been her experience.

Initially, she described how they cleaned the glasses that are usually positioned in the bathrooms.

According to Danna, they are cleaned with the identical cloth as the remainder of the bathroom.

She alleged: "The same cloth used to clean the pipes or the toilet, that's the one they gave us to clean the glasses with."

According to her, owing to time constraints, they are frequently not even rinsed with water, but mirror cleaner spray and a cloth.

She emphasised: "It was the rule, not my decision."

Danna, a former hotel worker, has revealed that she now avoids decorative pillows and runners in hotel rooms as they "disgust" her. She explained: "White pillows are washed, but decorative ones are not. They are washed about once a year or only if they look dirty."

She also confessed that she never walks barefoot in carpeted hotel rooms anymore. Despite their seemingly clean appearance, she claims they are seldom thoroughly cleaned.

She added: "If there were stains, they would simply tell us to wipe them with a damp cloth and that was it."

Her revelations sparked a debate in the comment section, with some arguing that cleaning standards vary depending on the hotel chain and staff. One person commented: "I work in a luxury hotel and we do clean everything."

However, others supported Danna's claims. One individual stated: "You're absolutely right, I also worked in hotels and what you say is true."

Another chimed in: "After seeing this, no one will laugh at me anymore for bringing my own glasses, towels and flip-flops from home."
