New details have emerged after the body of an unidentified toddler girl, estimated to be about three years old, was discovered on a popular beach. Dressed in a swimsuit, the young girl was discovered on Edem Beach of Palaio Faliro just outside the city centre of Athens, Greece, on Sunday (July 27 at around 3am.

According to fresh reports, a forensic doctor located bruises on her lips as well as injuries to her head and body, which indicate that she was abused before her death. The extent of her injuries, from an initial examination, indicates that she had been in the sea for several hours. The girl was also noted to be extremely thin, almost emaciated. Investigators are currently considering the possibility that she was thrown from a boat.

It is now also feared that the three-year-old was harmed around three or four hours before she died.

The Hellenic Coast Guard appealed to the public on Sunday (July 27) for information that could shed light on the mystery. No missing children that fit her description have been reported to the authorities and nobody has come forward to claim her.

An Egyptian man, planning on going for a midnight swim, made the grim discovery and raised the alarm, which sparked a huge emergency response. The little girl was transported to the Agia Sophia Children's Hospital. However, the doctors determined the child was already dead.

So far, local CCTV has yet to pick up any suspicious movements.

“The child was wearing a long-sleeved, full-body swimsuit of turquoise blue and fuchsia color,” the announcement reads. The toddler is described as slim, with short brown hair and olive-toned skin.

“Any citizen who knows anything related to the identity of the child, her family, or any other information that could help in the investigation of the incident is kindly requested to contact the First Port Department of Flisvos immediately at 210-9829759, or the Saronic Gulf Port Authority at 210-8946326.
