The Foreign Office has issued fresh travel warnings for Egypt, Tunisia, Turkey and Morocco, advising Brits against all forms of travel to parts of the countries. For Brits planning a summer trip to Turkey, the Government urges travellers to stay aware and be vigilant at all times. Terrorist attacks in the country are very likely, with most terrorist attacks having occurred in southeast Turkey, Ankara and Istanbul.

There have also been incidents involving knives, firearms and explosives. These often happen in places such as public buildings, places of worship, airports and large public gatherings. The most recent attack happened in October 2024, where five were killed and 22 were injured. The latest advice for Turkey advises against accepting lifts from drivers of unofficial taxis due to the high risk. “Find a registered taxi, note the registration number before entering and ensure the fare is metered. App-based taxis and pre-booked taxis are also widely available”, the Foreign Office says.

Similarly, the Government has issued warnings for British travellers heading to three North African countries this summer.

For Tunisia, the Government advises against all travel to parts of the country. Brits have been warned not to go to Western Tunisia, including the Tunisia-Algeria border and Southern Tunisia, due to cross-border terrorist activity and fighting.

The Foreign Office says, for those who need to travel to these areas, “research your destinations and get appropriate travel insurance”. The Government department adds: “Insurance should cover your itinerary, planned activities and expenses in an emergency.”

Also in North Africa, jet setters have been warned that travel to Morocco is not guaranteed to be safe. The Foreign Office similarly advises thoroughly planning and researching your trip, as well as getting travel insurance.

In Morocco, there is currently a high threat of terrorist attacks globally affecting UK interests and British nationals, including from groups and individuals who view the UK and British nationals as targets, according to the Government. The Foreign Office urges travellers to “stay aware of your surroundings at all times”.

Attacks are most likely to happen in places visited by foreign nationals, such as transport hubs, government buildings, crowded places and businesses with western interests.

Egypt also has a warning for Brits, advising against all travel to parts of the African country. The government has warned against travel to the Egypt-Libya border , North Sinai, the Northern part of South Sinai, the Eastern part of Ismailiyah Governorate, Hala’ib Triangle and Bir Tawil Trapezoid and the Western Desert.

The Foreign Office says the conflict in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories could lead to border closures, urging travellers to read the travel advice for those countries before trying to cross.
