The Foreign Office has issued travel advice to Brits heading to France this summer. Millions of tourists from the UK head to France every year to enjoy the attractions, cultural heritage and delicious food.
However, holidaymakers are being warned that "terrorists are very likely to carry out attacks in France". According to the Foreign Office, attacks are most likely to take place in places visited by tourists, such as shopping centres, entertainment venues, sporting events, public transport and crowded places. British tourists are urged to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings.
The Foreign Office said: "There is a high threat of terrorist attack globally affecting UK interests and British nationals, including from groups and individuals who view the UK and British nationals as targets. Stay aware of your surroundings at all times."
They added: "Terrorism attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places visited by tourists and foreign nationals." The Foreign Office continued: "Methods of attack have included knife attacks, shootings, bombings and vehicle attacks. Be vigilant in public places and follow the advice of local French authorities."
In 2023, a German tourist died and two others, including a British man, were injured in a knife and hammer attack near the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The suspect attempted to flee the scene but was tasered and arrested by police.
A teacher was also killed in a knife attack at a school in Arras, northern France, in the same year. Witnesses say the attacker shouted "Allahu Akbar" before killing the French language teacher and injuring two others.

British tourists are also warned of crime in France this summer. The Foreign Office is advising people to remain mindful of pickpockets.
They said: "Take sensible precautions against street crime and car crime. Pickpockets can work in gangs; one distracts you while the other one goes into your bag.
"Thieves and pickpockets operate on the Paris Métro, on RER (train) lines and at mainline stations."
Holidaymakers should keep valuables, including passports and credit cards, in separate bags to reduce the risk of theft. They should also carry their bag across their body rather than on their shoulder.
