Hamas on Monday released a first batch of seven surviving Israeli hostages to the Red Cross, said the Israeli army, marking the start of a hostage-prisoner swap under the first phase of a Gaza ceasefire deal brokered by President Donald Trump. The US leader declared the Gaza was “over” as he flew to the region as world leaders gather for a summit in Egypt. Follow our liveblog for the latest updates.

Yesterday's developments:

  • Food distribution sites run by the controversial US and Israel backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation are being shut down under the terms of the ceasefire deal, an Egyptian official and another official in the region told The Associated Press on Sunday. 
  • Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday that the country had achieved great victories in two years of war on multiple fronts, but warned the conflict was not yet over.  
  • The Palestinian Authority is ready to work with US President Donald Trump and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair on their effort to consolidate the Gaza ceasefire and start rebuilding, a senior Palestinian official told Blair on Sunday.
