A family who said they managed to save around £3,300 on a holiday to Ibiza have shared their advice. The family of four said they were able to get a 10-day all inclusive holiday to the expensive Spanish island for £2,500.
Nathan Hart and his fiancee Cassie Farelly said they made the estimated savings by going outside of the school holidays and also searching for holidays that offered a child’s free place. The couple, from Merthyr Tydfil, have booked the trip for them and their twin three-year-old daughters for the end of September. They are encouraging others to use the filter option when looking at holidays on some of the biggest travel websites.
Mr Hart told the BBC: "When searching you can see which places offer one free child place, choose a range of locations and sort by lowest price.
"We found an exceptional hotel for £800 per person plus one free child place, so that's already an £800 saving.
"As well as that, on the booking page you can see a calendar showing the difference in price for the holiday on different dates."
Ibiza in Spain’s Balearic Islands is often considered one of the most expensive holiday destinations in Europe.
Other money-wise holidaymakers have also shared their thrifty tips with the BBC which reports the price of all-inclusive package holidays to popular tourist hotspots have shot up.
May Burrough, who lives in a flat in London, revealed she used a home-swapping website and only paid an £85 cleaning fee to rent a five-bedroom villa with a pool on Spain’s Costa Brava for a week with friends.
The 37-year-old, who also had to pay around £250 on transport for their trip, estimates a villa that size would usually cost £3,500 to rent for a week.
While for those looking to holiday at home rather than abroad, house sitting could be worth considering.
Kayleigh Pennel-Price told the BBC her young family will house sit a home in Buckinghamshire village which was booked through a house sitting website.
They will stay in a home with a sauna, pool and private woodland to look after two Yorkshire terriers.
Kayleigh, who thinks the break could cost just £250 for two weeks, said: "We mostly plan to just stay there.
"We love both abroad and UK holidays, but we don't like to leave our dog.
"And with the two babies, abroad is a little harder."
