Fears are mounting for a missing Brit who vanished just hours after flying to the Algarve on Tuesday. Greg Monks, from Glasgow in Scotland, was last seen between Tuesday night and the early hours of Wednesday morning in the popular Algarve resort town of Albufeira, renowned for its nightlife and beaches.

It is widely reported that he became separated from the group in the early hours and hasn’t been seen since. Greg Monks' worried sister Jillian sounded the alert yesterday, saying the 38-year-old disappearance is “completely out of character” and it is "not like him to do this". The family of the Scot have appealed to expats in the area in a "desperate" attempt for more information.

Jillian also confirmed her brother's disappearance had been reported to the British Embassy as well as police and his hotel.

Jillian wrote on an Albufeira expat site: “My brother is missing in Albufiera and has not been seen since Tuesday night/ Wednesday morning.

“Anyone who is there or has any info please message! Feel free to share on platforms he’s aged 38! Reported to the police, hotel and embassy! Please any info we are desperate - not like him to do this.”

Alison Meechan Fraser, from Hamilton in South Lanarkshire, subsequently confirmed the 38-year-old had been reported missing and police were looking for him.

She said: "He was with a group of friends. All the other boys are at the accommodation. They all arrived Tuesday, went on a night out and none of them have seen him since late Tuesday/early Wednesday.

"It’s out of character, he’s 38 and named Greg."

Jillian told The Portugal News that her brother, who was on a stag do, had left his friends to go back to the apartment and has not been seen since.

She added: “Police believe based on CCTV, that he was seen around Cerro de Aguia and have been searching for him”.

Hundreds of British holidaymakers reacted to Jillian's SOS by promising their support.
