“Time for a new political party that actually cares about the people.”

The SpaceX owner spent around US$288 million to help elect President Trump and other Republican candidates, according to a Washington Post analysis.

It comes after Musk once again tore into the president's spending bill in a series of scathing remarks on Saturday.

The world's richest man condemned Trump's “Big Beautiful Bill” as “utter madness”.

He wrote in one of his posts: “'The latest Senate draft bill will destroy millions of jobs in America and cause immense strategic harm to our county.”

Passing the package, Musk said, would be “political suicide for the Republican Party.”

Musk's latest outburst came after Trump said he was "very surprised" and "disappointed" with the criticisms of the Tesla owner.

"Elon and I had a great relationship. I don't know if we will anymore," he told reporters in the White House on Thursday.

On Saturday Trump was asked his current relationship with the Tesla owner to which he replied that he has “not spoken to him much”.

Tensions between the pair spaked earlier this month as the two traded insults in a bitter row on the social media sites they each own.

On June 5 during an Oval Office meeting, Trump said he was "disappointed" with criticism from Elon Musk, aimed at his administration's tax and spending bill.

"Elon and I had a great relationship, I don't know if we will anymore," he said.

In response, Musk doubled accused the president of "such ingratitude". "Without me, Trump would have lost the election," he said.
