Budget airline easyJet is set to begin offering flights from a major UK airport to an "underrated" European seaside city.

The route will begin on June 25, and operate twice weekly from London Gatwick, which served around 41million passengers in 2024, over the summer season.

Customers will be able to fly to Brest in Brittany on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Tripadvisor highlights the city's natural harbour, which is guarded by an imposing medieval tower and castle.

This "hints at its past as one Brittany’s most important maritime cities". The modern town has seafront cafés looking out over yachts, fishing boats, and naval vessels.

Pierre C wrote on Quora some years ago: "Brest is grossly underrated. Even in France, it is viewed as a dull, austere, not quite interesting city, because it was rebuilt from scratch after WWII."

He added that, at first, its "uniform" appearance suggests that there's "not much to attracts tourists".

Although, under the surface, Brest is a "lively" city.

Pierre wrote: "Its architecture is more surprising and diverse than what the untrained eye sees. Also, it is a unique opportunity to discover mid-20th-century modernist architecture.

"It is surrounded by the charming Breton countryside and by the dark blue ocean."

He added: "Even the harbor has become a lovely place (think of it, 'harbor' and 'lovely place' in the same sentence), with plenty of dining options just in front of the rade and the ships."

Tripadvisor recommends visiting the National Maritime Museum in Brest, as well as the Garden of the National Botanical Conservatory.

There's also the Capuchin Workshops. Originally a convent for Capuchin monks in 1695, it was later converted into industrial workshops.

In addition, there's Le Téléphérique - a cable car offering brilliant views of the city.

Also recommended is the Tour de la Motte Tanguy, a medieval tower on a rocky motte beside the Penfeld river.
