An easyJet flight from Spain to the UK was forced to be diverted after a passenger suffered a medical emergency on board. The plane was travelling from Tenerife to Liverpool when it had to make an unplanned landing at Santiago-Rosalia de Castro Airport in Galicia, northwest Spain.
The pilot made an urgent request for any doctors or nurses on board to help "revive a 67-year-old passenger who was unconscious", air traffic controllers said. She is understood to have been travelling with her husband and a friend. Her current condition remains unknown. Air traffic controllers wrote on X: "The crew of the flight from Tenerife South to Liverpool informed us that they needed to urgently divert to the airport at Santiago because they were trying to revive a 67-year-old female passenger who was unconscious.
"We facilitated a continuous descent and approach to runway 35 while medical care on the ground was coordinated with the airport. We wish the passenger a speedy recovery."

It is rare that a plane is forced to divert due to a medical emergency, but pilots will decide to make an unsheduled landing if a passenger needs urgent medical care on the ground.
There are protocls put in palce by airlines to ensure they are diverted to the nearest suitable airport, where they will be met by local medical teams.
Passengers who have had their flights changed for this reason may not receive a refund for the delay, as it is considered necessary for safety.
