Flash floods have hit Dubai as the UAE is facing its heaviest rainfall since records began 76 years ago - but latest forecast for the area shows 24C heat arriving soon.

WXCharts weather forecasts are now suggesting that weather conditions could change next week, following heavy rain between yesterday (December 18) and today that left streets waterlogged, residents wading through the water-filled roads, and traffic grinding to a halt.

Dubai police teams have urged residents to stay indoors. In a statement, the police said: "For your safety, please remain cautious as unstable weather conditions are expected in the coming hours, and avoid going out unless it is absolutely necessary until midday on Friday (December 19).

Forecasts for the rest of today, however, shows a more unpredictable weather, and according to WXCharts, Dubai could be hit by more heavy rain.

Authorities have declared an orange alert as they struggle to assess the extent of the waterlogging on streets and roads across the country.

The Ministry of Interior issued an advisory on Thursday, urging residents to exercise extreme caution and avoid venturing outdoors unless absolutely necessary. The persistent rain has led to hazardous driving conditions and increased the risk of accidents on the roads.
