Donald Trump has warned Israel to "stop the bombing of Gaza" with immediate effect.

He made the statement on his social media platform Truth Social after it appeared that Hamas had bowed to his demands over a peace plan, including handing over all hostages.

He said: "Based on the Statement just issued by Hamas, I believe they are ready for a lasting PEACE.

"Israel must immediately stop the bombing of Gaza, so that we can get the Hostages out safely and quickly!"

He added: "Right now, it’s far too dangerous to do that. We are already in discussions on details to be worked out. This is not about Gaza alone, this is about long sought PEACE in the Middle East."

Trump's statment comes after Hamas indicated it was prepared to accept some of the key demands of his peace plan for Gaza.

The 20-point plan called for an immediate ceasefire, an exchange of all hostages held by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners held by Israel, a staged Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, the disarmament of Hamas and the introduction of a transitional government led by an international body.

Hamas said it agreed to release all living and dead Israeli prisoners, but said it would need more time to do so than stipulated in the peace plan.

Under its terms, Hamas is supposed to return all living and dead hostages within 72 hours.

For its part, Israel must release 250 Palestinians currently serving life sentences and 1,700 Palestinians in Gaza detained since the horrific October 7, 2023 attacks.

An Egyptian source reportedly has told Cairo News talks are already underway between Israel and Hamas about the exhcnage of prisoners and hostages.

Hamas said it was ready “to hand over the administration of the Gaza Strip to a Palestinian body of independents (technocrats) based on Palestinian national consensus and supported by Arab and Islamic backing”.

However, Hamas leader Osama Hamdan told Al Arabiya TV that the group would not accept a foreign administration or forces in Gaza.

Hamas also refused to say whether they are prepared to disarm, which is a key demand for both Israel and Trump.

Earlier on Friday, Trump set Hamas a deadline of Sunday 6pm Washington DC time to agree to his Gaza peace plan or face the consquences.

"If this LAST CHANCE agreement is not reached, all HELL, like no one has ever seen before, will break out against Hamas," Trump thundered on his Truth Social website.
