Donald Trump's press secretary Karoline Leavitt is urging the UK to tune into GB News following the shock resignation of BBC boss Tim Davie and BBC News' CEO Deborah Turness. Mr Davie quit his role yesterday, saying it was entirely his decision to leave the position after 20 years at the BBC. Ms Turness announced her resignation that same day.

It comes following a week of damaging disclosures about the broadcaster's editorial practices, including the manipulation of a Trump speech during a Panorama episode, as well as allegations of skewed reporting on the Israel-Hamas conflict. Trump welcomed the news of the resignations, writing on Truth Social: "The TOP people in the BBC, including TIM DAVIE, the BOSS, are all quitting/FIRED, because they were caught 'doctoring' my very good (PERFECT!) speech of January 6th."

He added: "Thank you to The Telegraph for exposing these Corrupt 'Journalists'. These are very dishonest people who tried to step on the scales of a Presidential Election. On top of everything else, they are from a Foreign Country, one that many consider our Number One Ally. What a terrible thing for Democracy!"

Trump's post was shared by his press secretary, Ms Leavitt, who encouraged the UK to switch to GB News, which is widely considered a right-wing channel.

She wrote: "@BBCNews is dying because they are anti-Trump Fake News. Everyone should watch @GBNEWS."

The taxpayer-funded corporation, which is due to have its Royal Charter renewed in 2027, has also faced criticism for livestreaming Bob Vylan's controversial Glastonbury set earlier this year.

BBC chair Samir Shah is due to apologise in a written statement to the Culture, Media and Sport committee later today.

Mr Davie is now "working through exact timings with the Board to allow for an orderly transition to a successor" over the coming months.

He wrote: "Overall, the BBC is delivering well, but there have been some mistakes made and as Director-General I have to take ultimate responsibility."
