US President Donald Trump is holding an Oval Office press conference on Friday to bid farewell to Elon Musk as he leaves the administration. Announcing the conference on TruthSocial, Mr Trump said: “This will be his last day, but not really, because he will, always, be with us, helping all the way. Elon is terrific! See you tomorrow at the White House.”
Mr Musk had been working in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). This week, he criticised Mr Trump's “massive spending bill” that expands the federal deficit and “undermines the work”of the department he is now leaving.

Elon Musk 'shoved' treasury secretary after making wild promise
Elon Musk reportedly "shoved" Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent after promising to save Donald Trump's administration "a trillion dollars".
Former Chief Strategist Steve Bannon told DailyMail.com: "Scott Bessent called him out and said, 'You promised us a trillion dollars (in cuts), and now you're at like $100 billion, and nobody can find anything, what are you doing?'
"And that's when Elon got physical. It's a sore subject with him. It wasn't an argument, it was a physical confrontation. Elon basically shoved him."
'The DOGE mission will only strengthen', says Musk
Elon Musk announced his departure from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), designed to find areas where too much money is being spent, but said it will only get stronger without him.
He wrote on X: "As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending.
"The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government."
