Donald Trump has been dealt an embarrassing blow as his approval ratings appeared to have tanked ahead of his first 100 days back in the White House. The US president's popularity plummeted to 41%, according to a CNN poll. This marks the lowest level of any president's first 100 days in 70 years, when Dwight Eisenhower was in the Oval Office, and below Mr Trump's first term. Only 22% of the 1,678 adults surveyed by SSRS for the outlet said they strongly approved of the Republican's presidency, whereas 45% said they strongly disapproved.
Mr Trump's approval ratings are down 4% since March and 7% since late February. This period has seen his popularity decline, particularly among women and Hispanic Americans, both down 7% since March. This comes after his Liberation Day tariff announcement and ensuing trade war, which saw his approval ratings on inflation down 9% and 4% on tariffs themselves.

Overall, 52% of respondents expressed confidence in his ability to deal with the economy - a decrease of 13% since December.
Mr Trump has also fallen through on his promise to end the Russia-Ukraine war on his first day, leading to a lack of confidence amongst voters when it comes to his foreign policies. The poll found that 60% of people disapproved of his handling of foreign affairs.
One of the participants and Trump voter, George Mastrodonato from New Mexico, urged the president to slow down on the executive orders, of which he signed more than 120.
He said: "I’m not a big fan of these executive orders that Trump and all the other presidents issue constantly. In Trump’s case, I think that he goes overboard on these executive orders, and that’s why a lot of them get shot down by the courts, you don’t have the authority to do that.

"I wish he would be a little more discreet and focus on the executive orders that he writes and issues that he could win in court. He seems to be like Yosemite Sam, you know? Blasting off with two guns in both hands, and some of them stick and some of them don’t."
Another poll by the Associated Press-Norc Center for Public Affairs Research, released over the weekend, found that 54% of Republicans thought Mr Trump was focussed on the "right priorities".
Roughly 40% of those surveyed thought he was handling the presidency well and approved of his approach to foreign policy, trade negotiations and the economy.
