Denmark has raged at Donald Trump's "violent" threats and claimed talks with the US over Greenland have "blown up." Danish foreign minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen briefed the media after his meeting with his UK counterpart, Yvette Cooper.
In his initial statements, as reported by broadcaster DR, the minister said that not sending a strong signal in response would risk showing weakeness to the US. He said: "It is important that all of us who believe in international law speak out to show Trump that you can’t go down this road any further." Talking about the talks held with the US last week, he said that it looked Denmark, Greenland and the US agreed to “move this from social media, Truth Social and other arenas, into a meeting room where we could discuss” possible solutions, building on their relationship.

He added: "That’s what we agreed,” he says, adding “we are pragmatic, cold-blooded Scandinavian people. For second I thought that we managed maybe not to solve the problem, but to find a path forward. It was disrupted by the statement from the president."
It comes as Mr Trump raged on social media in a clash with NATO allies over who should own Greenland. He wrote on the social media last night: "NATO has been telling Denmark, for 20 years, that 'you have to get the Russian threat away from Greenland'.
"Unfortunately, Denmark has been unable to do anything about it. Now it is time and it will be done."
