A DAD has been killed in a horror crocodile attack in Indonesia after the beast grabbed him and dragged him into the water.
Sarangadi, 49, was mauled to death while his friends battled to pull him out from the crocodile's jaws.
Sarangadi was foraging for shellfish in the river when the crocodile attacked him.
The beast reportedly launched out of the murky water and latched onto the man's torso with its jaws.
Sarangadi's pals tried their best to reach him but he was quickly dragged into the depths of the river.
One of the friends said he had seen a "whirlpool" in the middle of the water shortly before the shocking attack.
Asdar said: "The other villagers waded into the river, and I chose to stay on land. Not long after we arrived, I saw a disturbance in the middle of the river.
"Suddenly, a crocodile surged out of the water and attacked Sarangadi.
"He works as a farmer. Collecting shellfish is not a usual part of his routine. He could have lived if we had not invited him."
Rescue teams searched the river overnight where Sarangadi's body was eventually found.
The body was returned to the victim's devastated family who waited desperately on the banks of the river.
The Kendari National Search and Rescue Agency confirmed the team had found the body floating near the mouth of the river - around a mile from where he was attacked.

Authorities have since warned villagers to stay away from the river for fear of another attack.
The Indonesian archipelago is home to 14 types of crocs.
There is also a large population of extremely large and violent estuarine crocodiles that are typically found here due to the region's climate.
Nature experts believe that over time crocodiles have been driven further inland closer to villages due to overfishing and development of coastal areas into farms.
This reduces the crocodiles' natural food supplies and reduces their habitat space respectively.
Widespread tin mining has also pushed locals closer to crocodile habitats.
The region has seen a rising number of such attacks recently due to these factors.
The most recent attack comes after a ten-year-old boy was killed by a crocodile while playing in a river in Indonesia.
Fikri Qurniawansyah, was riding a makeshift canoe with mates when the deadly reptile pounced on the group.
The youngster is believed to have put his hand in the water before the predator chomped down on his arm.
Fikri screamed in pain before the massive crocodile pulled him off his boat - a blue barrel converted into a small canoe.
Desperate pals clung onto his other arm, trying to wrestle him back to safety.
But the predator's grip prevailed - leaving the animal to escape with the boy in its jaws after the vessel overturned.
