Two people, including the alleged shooter, have died, and at least six other individuals were injured following a shooting at the city hall in a Czech Republic town. Emergency services descened onto Chřibská, located in the Děčín region, on Monday, January 19. 

Police were called to the area to report of the incident before 10.30am today. Among the 999 crews in attendance were also a bomb disposal expert with a dog, local news outlet IDNES reports. Police said the alleged shooter has been "eliminated". Locals have claimed to IDNES that the suspect was a drug addict. 

The force is "verifying the information about the number of people injured".

Six people were taken to hospital, according to the local health authority quoted by local media. The mayor of Chřibská was among those injured, police confirmed to local media.

Quoting the local police, media outlet IDNES said the mayor of Chřibská Jan Machač was among those injured. 

Six people were taken to hospital

Two people with gunshot wounds to the chest were admitted to the Masaryk Hospital in Ústí nad Labem, four injured to the hospital in Děčín, said Miloslava Kučerová, spokesperson for the Regional Health Authority, IDNES said.

What we know so far

The shooting at the municipal office in Chřibská, near Děčín in North Bohemia. One person and the attacker died, local police said. Six others were injured, including at least one woman seriously, Radio Prague International said.

The attack was reported shortly before 10.30 a.m., after witnesses alerted authorities. Emergency services responded immediately, with one patient airlifted to hospital, Radio Prague International also said.

The local police said six people were injured in the incident, including one officer. The force also said a press briefing will be held at 12pm (UK time) and will be attended by Czechia's Interior Minister Lubomír Metnar, and Police President Martin Vondrášek.

The alleged shooter was 'eliminated'

The alleged shooter has been shot dead, the local police said, adding that they are "verifying the information about the number of injured or dead".

The building is now safe, a local police spokesperson said

A spokesperson for the local police said: "The building is safe. "We are also sending a pyrotechnician to the scene and a special explosives-sniffing dog will also help. This is standard procedure, we have no information about any explosives."
