Cost of full English breakfast in Majorca set to explode thanks to one item

The cost of a full English breakfast on the Balearic Islands could be set to rise after the price of eggs increased by 50% in a year. The cost has increased by 30% in recent weeks and by half compared to the same time last year, according to a report by BusinesInsider cited by the Majorca Daily Bulletin.

Bartolomé Servera, the president of the Balearic Food and Drink Distributors Association, has corroborated as he warned that the cost could increase further if Spanish eggs are exported to the United States. The cost of eggs has become a key talking point in US politics, with critics of Donald Trump using the price as a barometer of his performance on managing the economy. Serveral confirmed that Spain is accelerating sales to North America, as the continent continues to be impacted by a significant outbreak of avian flu.

Such is the extent of the problem that the president of the Balearic Islands Food and Beverage Distributors Association believes that the US administration will exempt eggs from any tariffs imposed on Spain.

The association’s president said: "Trump has a serious problem because they don't have eggs and his citizens demand this basic food in their diet."

Such has been the desperation for eggs in America that the country has been forced to seek help from several European nations.

The US is understood to have approached Finland, Denmark, Sweden, and the Netherlands to help it solve its egg problem.

The situation is particularly ironic given the strained relations between the US and Europe during Donald Trump's time in office after starting a trade war with tariffs.

One user on Reddit mocked: "This is just top-notch, isn't it. First, insult your bordering allies, threaten to annex Canada, then threaten your overseas allies with annexing Greenland, then insult them saying they exist solely to screw the US, then start the most ridiculous trade war the world has yet seen ... and then beg for eggs because the shortage is getting out of hand."

Several further warned that the increase in demand for eggs will inevitably lead to price hikes in the future.

The surge in demand could also have an impact on the supply chain of eggs and egg products on the Balearic Islands.

Currently, the island is forced to import eggs and egg products from mainland Spain to meet demand in the summer months.
