Car rams into bus stop in Israel leaving at least 13 injured

A car has rammed into a bus stop in Israel, leaving 13 injured.

The incident happened today (Thursday) at Karkar Junction, north of Tel-Aviv, and Israeli police said a 53-year-old Palestinian man was suspect.

It's reported a number of civilians were run over and hit by a car, which officers said was driven at people before being "neutralised".

ABC News reports a 17-year-old girl was critically injured and two others were seriously wounded, with one person moderately injured and six others who suffered minor injuries.

A police officer was among those injured. A police statement said: "The determined action of the police brought the incident to an end, thus preventing further harm to innocent people, while saving lives."

Orly Keinan, from Magen David Adom, the Israeli emergency services agency, said: "It was a severe scene. When we arrived with large forces, we saw the injured, some of them lying on a dirt mound behind the bus stop

"They told us they were hit by a vehicle that had mounted the sidewalk and fled. We provided them with lifesaving treatment, including stopping bleeding, bandaging, and immobilization, before evacuating them to Hillel Yaffe Medical Center."

Negotiations between Israel and Hamas on the next phase of the Gaza ceasefire began Thursday in the Egyptian capital, Egypt said, averting a collapse ahead of Saturday's expiration of the agreement's first phase.

Officials from Israel, Qatar and the United States started “intensive discussions” on the ceasefire accord's second phase in Cairo, Egypt‘s state information service said in a statement.

“The mediators are also discussing ways to enhance the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, as part of efforts to alleviate the suffering of the population and support stability in the region,” it said.

Phase 2 talks are meant to negotiate an end to the war, including the return of all remaining hostages in Gaza who are alive, and the withdrawal of all Israeli troops from the territory. Return of remaining deceased hostages would happen in Phase 3.
