Majorca is one of the best places in Europe to see the total solar eclipse on August 12 and as such, the Balearic Government has confirmed measures will come into force on Wednesday affecting cars, vans, motorcycles and mopeds as huge crowds are expected.According to updated guidance published on August 4, the restrictions will generally be in place between 3pm and 9pm as part of the ECLIPBAL operation. However, authorities have warned road closures could begin earlier if traffic builds up, car parks become full or safety concerns arise. In Platja de Palma, controls will begin at 8am, while in Santa Ponça the operation will start 24 hours earlier on Tuesday, August 11.
