British tourists heading to Spain have been advised to stay alert when driving on the country's road network. Spain is a hugely popular destination for holidaying Brits, attracting millions of visitors from the UK each year.
Motoring organisations estimate that around a third of British holidaymakers will choose to rent a car when travelling in Spain. However, British motorists face hefty fines staring from €100 (£84) if they are caught speeding. Spanish authorities have invested heavily in a new generation of road cameras that make it easier to catch speeding motorists.

The new models are highly sensitive and can detect vehicles exceeding speed limits by as little as 1 km/h.
The company Show Plates World explained: "Spanish authorities are clearly stepping up speed enforcement, with technology that leaves little room for error.
"Even slight speeding can trigger fines, which can catch drivers unfamiliar with the roads off guard.”
The new cameras have been installed on major highways and popular tourist routes, including on roads leading to hotspots like Malaga, Alicante and Barcelona.
Some areas also feature hidden or portable cameras placed in less obvious locations, which could easily catch out the unwary driver.
Show Plates World advises drivers to observe speed limits and "use GPS or apps that alert you to speed camera zones.”
They added: "Spain’s investment in advanced speed enforcement means UK drivers must pay extra attention to their speed.
