A four-year-old British girl has died after being rescued from a swimming pool at a hotel in Playa Blanca, Lanzarote. The tragedy unfolded at about 1.30pm local time on Saturday at a resort in the municipality of Yaiza, on the Avenida de Pechiguera. The child was pulled from the water showing signs of drowning and was already in cardiorespiratory arrest. Emergency services were alerted immediately.

A coordinating nurse from the Canary Islands emergency service (SUC) provided telephone instructions to bystanders or staff to begin resuscitation while help was on its way. Responders, including local police, the Civil Guard, two ambulances, and a medical helicopter from the Lanzarote Emergency Consortium, rushed to the scene, reported Lavozdelanzarote. Advanced life support efforts continued on arrival, but the child could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the hotel.
