A BRITISH tourist has died while swimming at a Cyprus holiday hotspot today.
The 62-year-old was pulled from the water at a beach in Peyia, in the west of the island, after he disappeared from sight.
He was brought to the shore where emergency crews performed CPR on him, but the man did not survive, SigmaLive reported.
The man was then rushed to Paphos General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The exact cause of his death is expected to be established after the mandatory autopsy.
It is not clear whether the man was alone and which beach exactly he was swimming at when the tragedy unfolded.
Peyia is a popular tourist destination about 4miles north of Paphos on the southwest coast of the Mediterranean island.
The Foreign Office has been approached for comment.
It comes after an 87-year-old died while swimming in nearby Coral Bay last month.
He was found floating unconscious after heading out in the water at around 1.30pm.
Other holidaymakers pulled him from the water and called an ambulance.
The coastline there typically has rocky headlands and large sea caves, popular with visitors.
