She and a friend suffered the horror crash just a day into the trip leaving her unconscious and feeling "lucky to be alive".

The 24-year-old had decided to rent a quad bike for the week to explore the island and took a trip out on the vehicle with her pal to celebrate her birthday.

She said: "We were only driving 20mph so we weren't going fast or anything. I was driving and my friend was on the back.

"There were loads of cars overtaking us so we were going really slow.

"We were around an hour and a half into the drive and were up quite high, but far away from the edge."

However, Maddy and her friend veered off the side of the cliff.

They tumbled nearly 10 feet onto the ground before the quad bike landed on top of them pinning them to the ground.

Luckily, the pair had landed on a ledge as the sea was at the bottom.

The student nurse, who lives near Manchester, says she has no idea why the vehicle suddenly deviated off-track - blaming a mechanical fault or uneven terrain.

Maddy said: "We don't know if it was a faulty bike or dodgy terrain or lost control of the steering. I thought I was going to die. I was seeing visions of people I loved as I was falling.

"You never think something like this is going to happen to you. I must've blacked out because I remember waking up on the ground - it was very scary.

"The wheels were still running when it was on top of us so I think that's why I got so many injuries on my left side.

"I managed to squeeze out a bit through a gap as we were both pinned underneath it. We were pinned for a few minutes."

Maddy and her friend were picked up off the side of the road by passers-by and rushed to hospital with multiple injuries.

She said: "I'd been on quad bikes before so knew how to drive them. It was very unexpected. We don't know why it tilted down the cliff.

"Luckily there were people driving behind us who were able to push the quad bike from on top of us. We could've easily fallen further. I'm so glad I was wearing my helmet."

Maddy was left battered and bruised after the accident - suffering a fractured scapula as well as other superficial injuries.

Now, the student is warning others to stay away from quad bikes after nearly losing her life last month.

She said: "I thought I'd broken the whole left side of my body because I couldn't feel anything. I didn't have insurance so I've learned my lesson there - we had to pay for treatment.

"We self-charged because we wanted to enjoy the rest of the week. It had ruined my birthday.

"I'll never go on a quad bike again. I thought I would be fine because I'd been on quad bikes before - and it's just the norm out there, everyone drives one. I thought I was safe.

"I wouldn't advise renting a quad bike to anyone. They're deathtraps. My helmet definitely saved my life."

Brit tourist in horror quad bike crash on Zante

AN UNLUCKY Welsh tourist that was knocked off of a quad bike after a speedy car struck her face was left with gruesome injuries.

Holly Thomas, 21, from South Wales, was enjoying a trip to Greek island paradise with her family before a 'traumatising' incident.

The family-of-four jetted off to Zante from Bristol Airport on June 5 for a week in the sun, before splashing out €250 on two quad bikes.

On day 3 of their trip they opted to use the bikes to explore one of the island's most famed attractions - the stunning Blue Caves.

Pontypool native Holly, claims a car travelling at 50mph hit the back of her quad bike on the way back, sending her flying through the air.

Graphic photos show Holly's face covered in scrapes and bruises, and a large swollen 'blood pool' on the back of her right leg, also said to be caused by the crash.

The Fine Enforcement Officer was rushed to a local hospital where she underwent a brain scan and had to have stitches on her head.

Holly was tragically chained to her room in the all-inclusive hotel for the rest of the trip to recover.

She flew back to Britain on June 12 and is still recovering at home.

Doctors have warned that her injuries could take months to heal and she vows never to use a quad bike ever again.
