A 25-year-old man from South Wales who was living in Vietnam was found dead in his hotel room in Ho Chi Minh City, an inquest has heard. Harleigh Jones, 25, from Pontypridd, had a combination of prescription drugs in his system when he died, Monday's brief hearing heard, according to Wales Online.
The inquest opening at Pontypridd Coroners Court on Monday heard that Mr Jones was found dead in his hotel room on June 12, 2025, and was subsequently repatriated to Wales. A post-mortem examination indicated that medication may have contributed to his death. Dr Jason Shannon carried out the post-mortem examination at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital and gave a provisional cause of death as the combined effects of gabapentin, pregabalin, olanzapine and benzodiazepines.
Mr Jones was living in Ho Chi Minh City at the time of his death, the inquest opening was told. He had been working in property in South-east Asia for some time.
Coroner Graeme Hughes said Mr Jones' death would need a full inquest.
He said: "I have sufficient reason to suspect that his death is unnatural. Following the post-mortem and toxicology reports it appears that drugs were impacted in the cause of his death."
Mr Hughes ordered that an investigation into Mr Jones' death continue and said the case would be adjourned until it is concluded.

Coroner Hughes ended the inquest opening by passing on his condolences to Mr Jones' family and friends.
Harleigh is understood to have been working in comms for APW, a property investment firm that is headquartered in Dubai, at the time of his death.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Harleigh had been living in the region since 2023.

After Mr Jones was repatriated to South Wales, his funeral service took place in Williamstown.
Mourners donated to the Welsh charity 2Wish, which works to support families who have lost a child.
