Brigitte Macron set to provide 'scientific and photographic' evidence she is a woman

French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte, will present evidence to a US court to prove Mrs Macron is female. According to the couple’s lawyer, both photographic and scientific evidence will be given as part of a defamation suit against the Conservative American influencer Candace Owens who reportedly claimed Mrs Macron was born male.

Tom Clare, the lawyer representing the French president and his wife, said Mrs Macron had found the claims "incredibly upsetting". Mrs Ownens’ lawyers have since responded with a bid to dismiss the claim, arguing that the case should not have been filed in Delaware which would cause "substantial financial and operational hardship". Speaking to the BBC, Mr Clare said: "I don't want to suggest that it somehow has thrown him off his game.

But just like anybody who is juggling a career and a family life as well, when your family is under attack, it wears on you. And he's not immune from that because he's the president of a country.”

The lawyer added that there would be "expert testimony that will come out that will be scientific in nature,” as the couple prepare to demonstrate "both generically and specifically" that Mrs Ownens’ claims are untrue.

"It is a process that she will have to subject herself to in a very public way. But she's willing to do it. She is firmly resolved to do what it takes to set the record straight,” Mr Clare continued.

"If that unpleasantness and that discomfort that she has of opening herself up in that way is what it takes to set a record straight and stop this, she's 100% ready to meet that burden."

The evidence may include pictures of Mrs Macron while pregnant and raising her three children.

Last year, Mrs Owens’ claimed she would bet her "entire professional reputation" on the First Lady of France being born male.

The allegations originated online on YouTube by bloggers Amandine Roy and Natacha Rey, whom the Macrons won a defamation lawsuit against in 2024. However, the ruling was overturned on appeal in 2025 on the ground of freedom of expression.

The Macrons filed the lawsuit against Mrs Owens in July of this year, alleging she "disregarded all credible evidence disproving her claim in favour of platforming known conspiracy theorists and proven defamers".
