Donald Trump handed out chocolate to hundreds of dressed-up children at the White House during its annual Halloween event on Thursday (October 30) - and made the same move that saw him going viral six years ago. The US President, joined by First Lady Melania Trump, greeted trick-or-treaters for about an hour outside the White House, which was decorated for the holiday with pumpkins, leaves and other festive decorations.
Mr Trump was spotted placing a candy bar on top of a child’s light-up mask, in a moment that mirrored a viral incident from Halloween 2019, when, during his first term in office, the President placed sweets on the head of a child dressed as a Minion. The moment quickly gained attention on social media, where a post with a side-by-side comparison of the 2019 moment drew in hundreds of likes and reshares. "President Trump DOES IT AGAIN! He just recreated the time he placed a chocolate bar on a kid’s head for Halloween 6 years ago,” the user wrote. “We are SO BACK!”

The president, 79, attended the celebration just hours after he returned from a whirlwind week in Asia, where he clocked 41 hours of travel aboard Air Force One in a trip that took him to Malaysia, Japan and South Korea. Mr Trump logged 20,027 miles in the air on the trip, the Air Force One pilot told reporters on Thursday, which concluded when he arrived at the White House just two-and-a-half hours before the trick-or-treaters arrived.
The US Air Force Strolling Strings band played “Thriller” as the Trumps came out under the South Portico of the White House, which was decorated with carved pumpkins and fall leaves. Military families, law enforcement families, foster and adoptive families and Trump administration officials with children were among those lined up on the South Drive to get a commemorative candy from the president and first lady.
Among his favourite costumes were those of three siblings who dressed up as Mr Trump himself, the First Lady, and a Secret Service agent. The president gave his doppelganger a high-five before asking the three children to turn around to pose for photographs.

Top White House officials, including White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, were also spotted attending the event with their families. Ms Leavitt and her husband, Nicholas Riccio, brought their one-year-old son in a jack o’lantern outfit.
The White House's annual Halloween event has not been short of bizarre moments, courtesy of US presidents. Last year, Joe Biden pretended to sink his teeth into a child dressed as a chicken. He also nibbled the toes of a baby dressed in an ice cream cone costume being held by her mother.
The former president was joined by his wife, Jill Biden, who wore a full panda suit, later removing the huge head to reveal herself underneath.
