Bangladesh air force training jet crashes into school in Dhaka; one killed - Footage shows fire, smoke billowing

A Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft crashed into a school in Dhaka's Uttara area on Monday, leaving at least one person dead and several others injured.The jet was identified as an F-7 BGI, which went down on the premises of Milestone School and College while students were present on campus.

The aircraft took off for a routine training mission but crashed around 1:06 pm.The crash sent shockwaves through the area, as emergency services rushed to the scene.At least 13 people were injured, reports the Daily Star. Fire and rescuers from the military arrived at the scene.

Bangladesh army’s public relations office confirmed in a brief statement that the aircraft belonged to the Air Force. The statement did not elaborate on the cause of the crash or whether the pilot had ejected.Speaking to reporters by phone, fire official Lima Khan said, "At least one person died and four others were injured," but she did not provide additional information, reports news agency AP. Footage showed smoke rising from the school building as rescue teams worked to secure the area and transport the injured.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine what led to the crash of the Chinese-made F-7 BGI, a type commonly used by the Bangladesh air force for training missions.
