A huge explosion has ripped through the Azerbaijani capital of Baku in the Yasamal district. Smoke and flames billowed over the nearby tower blocks after the blast. Unconfirmed reports on social media said the explosion occurred at an "old pyrotechnic area." Emergency services were reportedly rushing to the scene.

Fire has been contained, news report says

The Ukrainian news outlet, 24 Channel, is reporting that the fire has been contained, but emergency services personnel remain at the scene.

It cites the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan reporting that the fire was quickly contained.

Azerbaijan's Ministry of Emergencies has said information spread by some media outlets about there having been an explosion at the Alov plant is not true, according to 24 Channel.

Baku is the capital of Azerbaijan and the city lies on the Caspian Sea.

Azernews cites official sources as saying "pyrotechnic materials" used for a film shoot exploded.
