Water flooded the kitchen and spread into nearby rooms, making the house unfit to live in. After the local fire department responded to the emergency, Daurham hired Excel Fire and Water Damage Restoration Services to clean up and repair the damage. She expected her long-standing home insurance policy to cover the costs. Instead, her insurer, Allstate, rejected the claim. The decision left an $17,827.96 restoration bill unpaid for months.
