Morocco qualified for the AFCON 2025 semi-finals by defeating Cameroon 2-0 in a controlled quarter-final in Rabat. "It’s historic. It’s been 22 years since Moroccans last saw the national team reach the semi-finals of the AFCON," said Walid Regragui, head coach of the Atlas Lions. Morocco will face the winner of Algeria vs Nigeria on January 14.

Senegal beat Mali 1-0 and also reached the semi-finals thanks to a goal from Iliman Ndiaye.

This Saturday, the final AFCON quarter-finals take place: Algeria-Nigeria will pit two formidable attacks against each other, while Egypt-Ivory Coast sees the seven-time African champions face the title holders. In their head-to-head record at the tournament, Egypt hold a clear advantage with 10 wins and just one defeat against Ivory Coast.

On the Dakar Rally, Nasser al-Attiyah (Dacia) won the 6th stage and took the overall lead ahead of the rest day in Riyadh. The Qatari finished ahead of teammate Sébastien Loeb, now 6th overall, 17 minutes 36 seconds behind.
