It’s a clash of Lions this Sunday in the AFCON final. The Lions of Teranga face off against the Atlas Lions in Rabat, with history on the line: a first continental crown in 50 years for hosts Morocco, or a second title in four years for reigning champions Senegal.

Elsewhere in sports news, Nigeria edged past Egypt on penalties (0-0, 4-2 shootout) on Saturday in Casablanca to claim third place. It marks the ninth time the Super Eagles have finished third in AFCON history.

In Ligue 1, Lens reclaimed top spot with a narrow 1-0 win over Auxerre, while Marseille tightened their grip on third place after an attacking masterclass at Angers (5-2).

In the Premier League, Arsenal missed a golden opportunity. Held to a 0-0 draw by Nottingham Forest, the league leaders failed to capitalize on Manchester City’s defeat in the derby against Manchester United (2-0). Michael Carrick enjoyed a winning start on the Red Devils’ bench. Liverpool, meanwhile, remain stuck in neutral – a fourth straight league draw, this time against Burnley (1-1).

In La Liga, Álvaro Arbeloa claimed his first win as Real Madrid manager, a 2-0 victory over Levante highlighted by a goal from Kylian Mbappé.

And finally, at the Dakar Rally, Nasser Al-Attiyah secured his sixth car title, while Luciano Benavides produced a stunning comeback to claim victory in the bike category.
