The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has released new maps following the massive quake.

Russia has been rocked by two earthquakes, including a huge magnitude 7.4 shock, and now the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued a warning for the country's Kamchatka Peninsula.

The largest earthquake wsa detected 144 km east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy, Russia,but moment earlier a quake with a magnitude of 6.7 was recorded nearby. Initially the US National Weather Service also issued a warning for Hawaii, but this was later cancelled after further investigation suggested there was no threat to the island.

According to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, waves reaching 1 metre above tide level are possible for some Russian coasts.

Coasts of Hawaii and Japan may see waves 0.3 metres above tide leve, it added. It went on to warn government agencies responsible for threatened coast areas should “take action to inform and instruct any coastal populations at risk”.

“Persons located in threatened costal areas should stay alert fro information and follow instructions from national and local authorities,” it said.
