Emails released by US House Democrats claim that Donald Trump "spent hours" at convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein's house with an alleged victim. Among the documents released on November 12 is an email exchange between Epstein and his ex-girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell. In the message dating back to 2011, Epstein said: "i want you to relize that that dog that hasn't barked is trump... VICTIM spent hours at my house with him,, he has never once mentioned. police chief. etc, im 75% there [SIC]." Maxwell, who has been convicted of conspiring in Epstein's sex trafficking ring and is serving a 20-year sentence, replied: "I have been thinking about that..."

The emails were released by Democrats on the House Oversight Committee, who obtained them after subpoenaing Epstein’s estate earlier this year. Mr Trump didn't receive or send any of the messages included in the latest release, and hasn't been accused of any criminal wrongdoing in connection with Epstein or Maxwell. The messages released today largely predate his time as US President, with Mr Trump entering the White House for the first time in January 2017 following his November 2016 elections.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told the Express: “The Democrats selectively leaked emails to the liberal media to create a fake narrative to smear President Trump." The statement went on to claim the victim referenced in the emails was the late Virginia Giuffre, "who repeatedly said President Trump was not involved in any wrongdoing whatsoever and 'couldn’t have been friendlier' to her in their limited interactions." The name of the victim was redacted in the emails released by Democrats.

The statement continued: "The fact remains that President Trump kicked Jeffrey Epstein out of his club decades ago for being a creep to his female employees, including Giuffre. These stories are nothing more than bad-faith efforts to distract from President Trump’s historic accomplishments, and any American with common sense sees right through this hoax and clear distraction from the government opening back up again.”

Jeffrey Epstein scandal explained

Jeffrey Epstein cultivated elite ties while running a sex-trafficking network targeting underage girls, grooming them at his opulent estates from New York to Little St James island.

A 2005 Palm Beach investigation led to a lenient 2008 plea deal, sparking fury over his 13-month 'work-release' sentence that protected co-conspirators.

Re-arrested in 2019 on federal charges for abusing minors as young as 14, Epstein died by suicide in jail, denying victims courtroom closure.

Accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell received 20 years in 2021 for procuring and grooming victims, as banks like JPMorgan paid out in enabling lawsuits.

By 2025, released documents highlight links to Clinton, Trump, and Prince Andrew—stripped of titles—yet elite impunity and missing evidence haunt ongoing probes.

Trump's approval rating plunges amid shutdown fury

A new AP-NORC poll reveals President Donald Trump's approval for managing the federal government has cratered to 33%—a sharp 10-point drop from March—fuelled by backlash over the longest US shutdown in history.

Republicans, once rock-solid at 81% approval, now stand at just 68%, while independents have soured from 38% to 25%, highlighting the toll of unpaid federal workers and disrupted food aid.

The survey, timed after Democrats' off-year election wins but before shutdown breakthroughs, underscores risks from Mr Trump's agency gutting and mass layoffs that have alienated even his base.

One Florida Republican retiree blasted the White House as a "petulant child" for hosting lavish Mar-a-Lago bashes while Americans go hungry.

Democrat's oath could tip scales on Epstein files vote

Arizona Democrat Adelita Grijalva will be sworn in as US Representative today, seven weeks after her special election win, delayed by shutdown chaos.

Her entry narrows the GOP House majority to 219-215 but seals the 218th signature on a bipartisan discharge petition by Representatives Massie and Khanna, forcing a vote to unseal Epstein's full files.

Timed with Democrats' fresh Epstein emails alleging Trump's deeper ties to the sex trafficker, her vote could spark a pre-inauguration clash on elite accountability.

Who is Ghislaine Maxwell?

Ghislaine Maxwell, the British socialite daughter of disgraced media tycoon Robert Maxwell, rose to infamy as Jeffrey Epstein's longtime companion and key recruiter in his underage sex-trafficking operation.

Born into privilege in 1961, she fled scandal after her father's mysterious 1991 death at sea and embedded herself in New York's elite circles, where she allegedly groomed dozens of vulnerable girls for Epstein's abuse between 1994 and 2004.

Convicted on five federal counts in December 2021, Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years in prison in June 2022, a term prosecutors hailed as justice for her "heinous crimes against children."

Now 64 and incarcerated at a low-security Florida facility—where she's reportedly pampered by celebrity inmates like reality TV stars—Maxwell's legal team is gearing up to petition President-elect Donald Trump for a sentence commutation, citing her "exemplary" behavior behind bars.

As Epstein's unredacted files continue to surface amid ongoing probes, Maxwell remains a central figure in the scandal, her appeals and high-profile ties fueling speculation about potential pardons in the incoming administration.

What do we know so far?

House Democrats have released explosive emails from Jeffrey Epstein's estate on Tuesday, revealing the disgraced financier repeatedly referenced Donald Trump as someone who "knew about the girls"—many of them underage victims—in his sex-trafficking ring.

In one 2011 message to Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein claimed Mr Trump spent hours at his Palm Beach mansion with an alleged victim, describing the president-elect as the "dog that hasn't barked" amid swirling rumours.

The disclosures, obtained through a protracted Oversight Committee battle, also show Epstein boasting of Mr Trump's inside knowledge while lamenting his 2007 Mar-a-Lago ban, which Trump has cited as proof of a clean break.

The White House swiftly dismissed the emails as a "fake narrative" pushed by Democrats ahead of a high-stakes House vote on full file release, with Republicans accusing the opposition of redacting names to smear the incoming administration.

As legal experts pore over the unredacted trove—including flight logs and contact books—the revelations intensify scrutiny on Mr Trump's past ties to Epstein, though no direct criminal allegations against him have surfaced yet.

Final alleged email exchange between Epstein and author

The final exchange shared by the Democrats is alleged to be between Epstein and author Michael Wolff.

Wolff writes: "I hear CNN planning to ask Trump tongith about his relationship with you--either on air or in scrum afterwards."

Epstein responds: "if we were able to craft an answer for him, what do you think it should be?"

Wolff comes back: "I think you should let him hang himself. If he says he hasn't been on the plane or to the house, then that gives you a valuable PR and political currency.

"You can hang him in a way that potentially generates a positive benefit for you, or, if it really looks like he could win, you could save him, generating a debt. Of course, it is possible that, when asked, he'll say Jeffrey is a great guy and has gotten a raw deal and is a victim of political correctness, which is to be outlawed in a Trump regime."

Trump denies any wrongdoing

Donald Trump has consistently denied any wrongdoing in relation to the Jeffrey Epstein case and files.

The US president has not been accused of any wrongdoing in connection with Epstein.

He says he fell out with Epstein in the early 2000s, before he was first arrested.

The White House previously said that "the president kicked him out of his club for being a creep".

'Latest emails and correspondence raise glaring questions'

Robert Garcia, Ranking Member of the Oversight Committee, said the emails the group say they received from the Epstein estate "raise glaring questions" about Trump.

He said: "The more Donald Trump tries to cover up the Epstein files, the more we uncover. These latest emails and correspondence raise glaring questions about what else the White House is hiding and the nature of the relationship between Epstein and the President.

"The Department of Justice must fully release the Epstein files to the public immediately. The Oversight Committee will continue pushing for answers and will not stop until we get justice for the victims."
